Dark Twists: Pinocchio Gets a Horror Makeover in Unstrung
Aug-26-2024
It seems that another beloved figure from childhood is about to be transformed into a horror-themed experience. Jagged Edge Productions, the creative force behind films like Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and the forthcoming Bambi: The Reckoning and Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare, has unveiled the first teaser poster for the latest addition: Pinocchio: Unstrung.
Filming for this intriguing project is projected to kick off in October, with ITN Studios and Premiere Entertainment preparing to showcase it at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. They are optimistic about releasing it in theaters worldwide within the same year. Given the buzz surrounding these productions, it appears highly likely that their plans will come to fruition.
Director Rhys Frake-Waterfield has expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that the movie will utilize practical effects whenever possible. This includes everything from the puppet itself, crafted by the renowned Todd Masters, to the film's title card.
With a budget notably greater than his previous film, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, Frake-Waterfield aims to create the ultimate horror version of Pinocchio, aspiring to make it his finest work yet.
In life, certain outcomes seem predictable, and one such certainty is that whenever a character enters the public domain, a film exploring a darker, twisted version of that character follows suit. It will be fascinating to see if Frake-Waterfield can deliver a quality film this time around, especially with the increased financial backing. Regardless of the final result, one thing remains clear – it promises to be an entertaining, thrilling ride.
