Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves – Just Defense, Feints and Smart Style Controls Outlined
Apr-25-2024
Ahead of EVO Japan 2024, SNK has unveiled a comprehensive fighting guide for their upcoming game, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, focusing on key battle mechanics that players should master. A highlight of this guide is the REV System, alongside the reintroduction of Just Defense and Hyper Defense mechanics from Garou: Mark of the Wolves.
Just Defense activates when a player blocks an attack perfectly, reducing the REV meter slightly and replenishing health. It also enables a player to execute a Guard Cancel, allowing for a rapid transition into a special maneuver. Similarly, Hyper Defense provides the same advantages but requires a forward block input during a multi-hit assault. Through Guard Cancels, players can swiftly counter with a Special Move, Ignition Gear, Redline Gear, or Hidden Gear.
Executing an Ignition or Redline Gear after a Guard Cancel enhances these attacks, making them more effective in combat. Another strategic element is Braking, which allows players to abort the animation of certain Special Moves, creating opportunities for additional combos. Additionally, players can confuse adversaries by using Feints, which simulate Special Moves.
The game also introduces Smart Style controls, designed to simplify gameplay. Pressing Circle repeatedly triggers a Smart Combo, and tapping Square near an opponent initiates a Combination Attack. However, some maneuvers like Feints are exclusively available in Arcade Style, giving players a varied approach to combat.
Set for release in early 2025, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is positioned as a major release, though its platforms remain unspecified. This guide not only clarifies the intricate combat system but also equips players with the knowledge to enhance their gameplay experience.
