First Look: Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix's Captivating Connection in Joker: Folie à Deux

Joker: Folie à Deux has released its inaugural clip, showcasing the intriguing dynamic between Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn, referred to as Lee in this story, and Joaquin Phoenix's Arthur Fleck. The scene presents a peculiarly charming moment of connection between the two characters.

In the video, available for viewing below, they seem to be situated in Arkham Asylum. Lee mentions that she caught Arthur's appearance on Murray Franklin's talk show, a segment that concluded with the dismal incident involving the host. Interestingly, Lee expresses that she anticipated that very conclusion—this leads the pair into a soft performance of 'Get Happy.'

The glimpse into Arkham suggests a deviation from their comic book origins, where Harley typically plays the role of a therapist while Joker is her patient. This film promises to present a fresh take on their backgrounds.

Director Todd Phillips has previously indicated that Gaga’s portrayal of Harley will depart from what fans might expect. He stated that they have removed the high-pitched voice, accent, and stereotypical characteristics often associated with the character in the comics to better integrate her into the unique Gotham universe established in the initial film.

Gaga also emphasizes that Lee will be an original interpretation. She remarked on how her version of Harley is distinct and genuine to the movie and its characters, noting that this experience is unlike anything she has tackled previously, promising it to be entirely fresh and entertaining.
