Gears of War: E-Day Set to Revisit Horror Roots with Intense Multi-Day Campaign
Jun-17-2024
Gears of War: E-Day will immerse players in the characters' experiences every minute during the Locust invasion. The Coalition has affirmed that the game's events will span multiple days amidst the ravaging attack of the Locust Horde.
This information was shared in a recent interview with GamesRadar during Summer Game Fest 2024. Gears of War's creative director, Matt Searcy, clarified the timeline for the studio's upcoming mainline game. The story will span multiple days, focusing on the characters from the initial moment of the invasion and following them through the subsequent days, showcasing their experiences and the city's transformation around them.
Announced at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, E-Day will serve as a prequel to the mainline games, set fourteen years before the original events. Players will witness the return of the series’ iconic heroes, Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago, exploring their narratives during the early days of the Locust Horde invasion.
Additionally, Searcy confirmed that The Coalition is revisiting the horror elements of the series with this next game. The team focused on recreating those dark, horror-like, and frightening moments by reflecting on what players remembered from playing earlier titles, including Gears 4. This vision informed the design of the forthcoming game.
