Gmail Unveils AI-Powered Q&A Feature for iOS Users to Enhance Inbox Interactions

The introduction of innovative features in email platforms significantly enhances user experience and communication efficiency. Recently, Gmail has announced the arrival of its Q&A functionality on iOS, building on its previous launches for web and Android users. This advanced tool harnesses artificial intelligence, allowing for intuitive interactions regarding messages in your inbox.

Gmail's Q&A capability has made its way to iOS devices, following its successful implementation on web and Android versions of the platform. Initially available earlier this year on desktops and then on Android in August, this feature is now accessible for iPhone users with compatible iOS versions. Google's announcement on Thursday marked an important step for users waiting to enjoy this AI-enhanced interaction.

Only Google Workspace users who have logged into their accounts on their iOS devices can utilize this feature. A similar requirement applies to Android users, necessitating an eligible subscription to access the functionality. To benefit from Gmail Q&A, users must be enrolled in any of the following plans: Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, Education Premium, or Google One AI Premium.

This Q&A feature leverages Gemini's chatbot, allowing users to engage in conversations and glean insights from their emails. Users can query the AI for specific information regarding their messages, inquire about unread emails, request emails from particular senders, receive summaries of emails on shared topics, or extract general details related to certain emails—all while maintaining a natural dialogue.

To engage with this feature, users can tap the black Gemini star or sparkle icon located in the upper-right section of the application. They can also utilize the “summarise this email” option when viewing an email thread. Furthermore, users can ask more general questions, such as “What was the theme of the last office gathering?” and the AI will efficiently sift through the inbox for relevant information. Currently, this feature is only available in English.

While the rollout of this capability is underway, it might require as many as 15 days for the feature to become visible within the Gmail app for all users.
