Google Launches Gemini App for Enhanced Mobile Access to AI Features in Google Workspace
Dec-02-2024
The recent introduction of the Gemini app for both Android and iOS platforms marks a significant development for Google Workspace users. Announced on Wednesday, this mobile application allows users to carry out organizational activities seamlessly. Previously, these capabilities were primarily confined to web access and certain applications like Google Docs and Gmail. The tech giant, based in Mountain View, aims to enhance the utility of its AI chatbot for business users who are often on the move.
The Gemini mobile app is currently available to users of Google Workspace, empowering them to log in with their organizational accounts. This access ensures that enterprise-grade features, which are not available in the standard version of the app, can be utilized. Users can engage with the AI chatbot to conduct research and seek solutions to their inquiries. Additionally, there is functionality that allows for the capturing of images from handwritten notes, which can then be exported directly to Google Docs or Gmail.
Another innovative feature available for Google Workspace users is the capability to produce visual interpretations of charts that have been sketched on whiteboards, all while logged into the Gemini app. The company has assured its users that they will continue to benefit from robust data protections comparable to those enjoyed on the web.
The Gemini application is set to be available in 150 countries and will support 46 different languages. Nonetheless, it is crucial to recognize that certain sophisticated functionalities present in the online version will not yet be supported in the mobile app. Notable exclusions include the inability to use Workspace extensions, upload files, or access Gems.
Moreover, certain limitations exist regarding the Work Profile on the Android version of the Gemini app. Users will also face challenges when attempting to authenticate their Workspace accounts through the Google app for iOS, which includes Gemini. To leverage the AI features aimed at enterprise functionalities, users must download the standalone version of the Gemini app.
In a further development, Google is expanding access to the Gemini app for users in the Education sector. Those on qualifying editions will receive the chatbot as a core service, while others can select it as an additional offering.
